Ádám Fellegi is one of the most well-known Hungarian piano artists and he has been providing many of us with a unique program in Budapest. His speciality is giving house concerts - ring the bell, go upstairs, chat with him and enjoy his performance seated in his living room.
We said performance, and we mean it. It is not just like listening to a composer's masterpiece (the plays change every few months) - it is getting involved in the world of that musician.
When we arrived on Sunday, Ádám Fellegi was already playing something in the living room - just to pass the time. Sometimes old guests arrived and then he greated them or told them a joke. At 3 o'clock, the official concert started, the menu: "Wagner - The ring, special version by Mr Fellegi."
"My question is: do you have to like the caterpillar because you like silk? Wagner was not a nice person, not easy to like but the music which flowed out of him can be compared to silk".
- these were the opening words to the concert. Ádám Fellegi has a unique and ironic style, he easily captures your attention even when he is not playing the piano.
The classicist cozy flat downtown will surprise you several times during the two hours. The perfomance is multivisual: apart from listening to the beautiful piano play and watching Mr Fellegi play behind the piano, you can enjoy the screening on the wall. He chose various bits from Wagner-operas according to the theme played - and there iare also texts running to understand more the happenings of the opera play.
It is simply fantastic! Who needs opera and concert halls if you have this? We recommend it to everyone.
